Aston Martin DBR5 UK 1960 #18 by Jade Miniatures
Kit available JAD43102
In terms of basic body shape, Jade have done a reasonable job with Aston Martin’s second F1 racer but it is on the suspension that things fall down a little as we see a significant discrepancy between the track width front and rear. It is the front that is too narrow. In that front suspension we see fine coil springs and yet the DBR5 ran with torsion bar suspension and so had simple telescopic dampers on the front. Interestingly on some of the photos that accompany the kit the cars are seen pre-race with coil springs in place but on track without them. Helper springs for transport perhaps? The main paint finish on the hand built models is well applied and has a subtle sheen to it, which is in keeping, but the colour is very dark. The car modelled was driven by Salvadori who failed to finish the race.

About Jade Miniatures
A well established range of well thought out kits and hand built models of competition cars, mostly from the golden era of the 1950s and 60s. The kits are generally pretty simple with well cast resin bodies, small numbers of resin and white metal ancillaries and a modest amount of etch. In the case of open wheeled subjects, the etch usually includes most or all of the suspension. Hand builts generally well finished. Made in France.
