The first two releases from this new manufacturer
are brave choices and at first might seem to be slightly strange ones.
That is until you realise that these kits have been made almost entirely
in South Africa and the subjects are, of course, cars driven by the
South African ace Jody Scheckter. A good deal of thought has obviously
gone into the kits and the instructions which are a lesson to an awful
lot of other kit manufacturers, with several pages of clear line drawings
and Tamiya colour references given for every component. We said these
were almost entirely made in south Africa, the parts that werent
are the tyres and turned rims, shocks and intake trumpets, which are
all Tameo components. Theres a good level of p/e detail for
suspension, wing endplates and various small details and the decals
are very clearly printed but the majority of the kit is in white metal.
These parts include a full engine and transmission and there are removable
body sections. The casting quality isnt quite to Tameo standard
but the parts arent bad and with a little clean-up the end result
will be a good looking, well detailed model. The first kit offers
the WR5 as it made its race debut in Belgium where Scheckter
spun out after having damaged the car at the start or the Spanish
GP where he scored the chassis first points with 6th place.
In an effort to improve the cars sometimes tricky handling various
changes were made and these obviously worked with a 2nd place in the
German GP the reward. These changes were incorporated into the new
car (chassis WR6) that was used in the Canadian GP and 2nd was again
the result. A brave first effort for a range that should do well.
There are more subjects in the pipeline (see forthcoming listings)
and they wont all be Scheckter cars! |

Rolls Royce Phantom II Cabrio Maharajah
|
£195.70
|
Built by Thrupp & Maberley on a 1934 Phantom chassis, the Maharajah
of Rajkots orange and aluminium car is one of the best known
Rolls Royces ever built. CCC have done a very good job of capturing
the lines of this majestic machine and the model is very well finished.
On the original car the wings, running boards, bonnet and spare wheel
shells were polished aluminium (pity the poor chauffeur!) and CCC
have used a fine metallic sliver but this is a compromise that model
manufacturers have always used. A tiny amount of simple assembly will
be required on receipt of the model as the option is given of an open
or closed roof. |

New 1:12th super-detailing set

Porsche 934/935 superdetailing kit
|
£349.00
|
Now before you all start questioning our sanity, we know that £349
is a lot of money for a detailing set. But what a set! With a 1:12th
scale kit there is always scope for adding something and Scale Motorsport
seem to have covered all angles! In total there are over 1,000 photo-etched
components ranging from the expected window frames and brake discs,
to a complete gear shift housing and plenty of parts that will take
very close attention to the instructions to identify. The p/e parts
are just the tip of the iceberg though as once weve been through
these 8 finely made frets we get to the 150 or so machined parts.
Weve seen turned damper housings before but dont recall
threaded, adjustable spring seats! To make sure you know where it
all goes theres a CD-Rom which gets extremely up close
and personal with a real 935 and there are two instruction books,
one for placement of the p/e and machined parts, the other showing
the routing of all the plumbing circuits on the car. Did we mention
that theres nearly 2 metres of solid and braided lines in various
scales? Oh, and a full decal set in case the ones in your Tamiya kit
are looking a little elderly. Madness, sheer madness. Cant wait
to see one built! |

The Complete Book of Formula 1
weight 3.4kg by Simon Arron & Mark Hughes |
£34.99
|
|
 |
| The authors of this amazing
volume have set out to produce a complete photographic record of all
of the cars and drivers that have started World Championship Grands
Prix between 1950 and 2003. That means a staggering 2765 photographs
needed to be found, and barring a couple of dozen from the fifties
and early sixties, theyve done it! There arent shots of
every race but a representative shot is used for each season and where
a driver used more than one type of car, the extra ones are included
too. Introductions to each season bring us the highs and lows in text
and photos but it isnt purely photographic, there are also full
lists of race winners for each season. In a separate section we find
driver profiles with portraits and simple statistics, such as dates
of birth, number of races contested and points scored. The only omission
is a complete results section but still, hats off to Messrs Arron
and Hughes for the incredible research that makes this the ultimate
photographic guide to the sports premier series. A must for
all F1 fans. |
