New 1:24th plastic kits
FUJ12172

Ford GT40 Daytona 1967 #4

£22.00

As with some of Fujimi’s previous GT40 kits this requires a little real modelling. As the same basic mouldings are used for several kits there are fuel fillers and other small details that need moving but these have been well thought out with blanking panels provided and clear instructions. Once these modifications have been completed and the model is painted it will make a fine miniature of the Mercury badged entry driven by Donohue and Revson.

Lamborghini Countach LP500SS

£18.00

Opening doors on a plastic kit are fairly rare, especially on one that only costs £18, but they are included in the Countach kit. Looking through the parts sprues thare are also what appear to be separate headlamp pods but these are marked as unnecessary on the instructions. The more adventurous may wish to have these functioning too. Modified or not, the kit should build well.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi 2003

£21.00

Whereas the two kits above are mostly moulded in white, much of the Impreza kit is pre-coloured, which means metallic blue for the body parts and black for most of the chassis and interior detail. A fair amount of detail painting is still necessary and even if you stick with the classic Subaru blue colour scheme you will probably still want to paint the body using Tamiya spray TS050.

Porsche 917K 1st Le Mans 1970

£23.00

The Porsche 917 kit has been eagerly awaited by many modellers and there is plenty of detail even before adding aftermarket etched parts (STUFP2473). The body is moulded in two halves but is not designed to be open. The engine will look complete from outside, top and bottom, but there is actually a void in the middle. With the model carefully assembled and detailed this won’t be apparent and the end result will be an attractive machine.

GMS003

Ferrari 308GTB Millechiodi Special - built

£66.05

We introduced Gamma’s new low cost hand built range last issue with a couple of elegant pre-war Alfas. The latest issue in this series is the modified 308GTB that gained it’s nickname from the number of rivetts used in the body modifications. The overall standard of finish is very good, possibly too good, with a fine lacquer coat over both the red original paint and the bare aluminium wheelarch extensions.

£59.30

These transkits include a full resin bodyshell and further resin parts for the interior tub, seat, interior door panels, two-piece rear wing and wheel inserts. There are turned metal wheel rims and rubber tyres and the whole lot is finished off with p/e parts for brakes, grilles fixings and the frames for the flat acetate windows. The decals are by Colorado and are generally well printed. Where two-tone finishes are required decal stripes are included to cover the join. The instructions are basic to say the least with colour laser copies taken from Automodelisme. With the diagrams from the base Tamiya kit it should all be a little more obvious.

Honda NSR500 FIM 94 Mr Donut Decal 1:12

£12.20

Intended for use with the Protar kit, the 126CK/C2 transkit includes machined wheel rims, a fairly comprehensive p/e sheet with brakes, wheel centres, wing endplates, tyre stencils and seat belt furniture. There are also well printed decals for Villeneuve’s race car.
We haven’t made a mistake for the first Honda V5 bike listing, the decals are for the Heller 1:24th kit and include three full liveries, the late season 2002 Pons machine of Barros, and Kato’s Gresini run bike both as a late 2002 racer and the black pre-season 2003 test bike. The Ferrari F310/F2002 set has similar contents to the 1:20 sets, just slightly smaller and is for a Revell base. The Escort Cosworth sheet has the full livery, including blue stripes, for either Delecour’s Monte Carlo winner or the similar works machine with which up and coming local driver Tommi Makinen won in Finland. There are two sets of seat belts but you will have to use the tyre decals from the donor kit.
The various 1:20th F1 decals include race numbers and sponsors logos but in most cases at least two colours will need to be painted, the exception being the Tyrrell which appears to have all of the white sections on the sheet.

In all of the sets there are fabric seat belts with p/e buckles and also p/e tyre sidewall sencils.
Finally we have the 1:12th bike liveries. Kato’s test bike and the Mr Donut machine are simple single colour paint finishes but several colours will be needed for the works Rossi bike and Kato’s 2002 mount. At least with the latter there are decal stripes to cover the masking lines and also precut chrome foil for the highlights in the livery. Once completed this one will look superb and, providing you get the masking right, so will the others.

LMM3202

Renault Shooting Star 1956

£54.25

LMM3202PP

Renault Shooting Star 1956 Painted Kit
Also available LMM3202M - hand built ready to run approx £120.

£69.85

A record car may seem to be a strange choice of subject for a slot car, as by definition they run against the clock rather than each other, but that hasn’t stopped LMM making these fine kits. The larger castings are very clean with just minimal flash clean up and surface preparation needed on the unpainted kit and the finish on the painted one is generally very good, with just the odd tiny blemish which may well polish out. Everything you need including the motor and wiring is in the kit and the comprehensive instructions are a mix of clear drawings and colour photos, some of which are of the real car for some of the finer details. All you need now is a large banked oval track and you could be at Montlhery, unless of course you have a very large living room in which case you could try and replicate the car’s Bonneville speed runs!
