No specific race option is mentioned on this kit but the basic shape and main
colour scheme of the Alfa Romeo have been well captured and the option of the
winged or wingless nose is offered. The main body casting is in S27's typical
super-clean resin and the majority of the ancillary parts are in white metal
and turned aluminium with a few p/e details for finishing off. The decals are
clearly printed and include all of the sponsors logos for the races early in
the season, though there is one small error. The flag decal next to Bruno Giacomelli's
name is devoid of the green bar on the Italian tricolore, a minor detail which
can probably be dealt with from the spares box. Stop Press - we have since received
a supplementary decal to correct this.
It's no surprise that with the excellent performances of the BAR
cars in 2004 we have had several kits. This latest version from Studio
27 is made to their usual high standards with clean castings and
fine machined parts. The kit offers two options, the Japanese GP
cars which wore the usual Lucky Strike livery and finished 3rd & 4th
in the hands of Button and Sato respectively, or the car from the
inaugural Chinese GP where the cars wore the sponsorship of local
favourite BAT brand, 555. This will make an interesting (and possibly
unique) addition to your F1 collections and the Shanghai race also
saw Button's best finish of the season with 2nd place.
These crisply printed decals are intended to be used in conjunction
with those found in Tamiya's XJR9 kit (TAM24084). The sheet includes
missing sponsorship and also further race number options for cars
in 1988 and 1989.
This two option sheet is intended for use with the Tamiya re-issue
(TAM24027). Two options are offered, the #14 machine of Bruno Saby
which finished 5th overall or the near identical #3 sister car of
Jean-Luc Therrier which retired. A two colour paint finish will be
required in bright red and pearlescent white, though the purple roof
edging is included on the clearly printed decals.
Both of these decals are actually for the same car, the privately
run machine of Bernard Darniche, and are for another Tamiya re-issue
(TAM24054). On the Ypres rally the car wore the red and white of
Belga and a two tone finish will be required. The two colours are
blended into each other with a series of pinstripes and the white
parts are included on the decals. The Tour de Corse car will be a
simpler job as it wore the plain blue of Gauloises. Neither event
was a success for the car but both versions will make attractive
models.
These
finely detailed etched fret differs slightly from the usual sets
that we see. We get the usual brake facings and there are plenty
of tiny parts are for detailing the engine and drive train of Tamiya's
Honda NS500. There are also machined aluminium exhaust silencers
neatly fitted on to the fret.

Profil have captured the proportions of the mighty Ferrari 312PB
very well in this fairly well detailed kit. The main body casting
is very clean and will only need some very simple flash removal during
paint preparation. In order to get the front wheels tucked deep inside
the wheelarches the resin is very thin here, so be careful. The chassis
section does have a few pin-holes so may need a little more care
but this is mostly in hidden areas and the cast-in rivet detail is
excellent. The ancillary resin parts are very clean and include well
sculpted parts for the rear suspension which will look very good
with careful painting. For final finishing the decals are clearly
printed and any errors on the main sheet have been rectified with
a supplementary one. All three works cars are available as options.

This well thought out and simple kit captures the Marzotto's unique
Ferrari coupe well. The main resin casting has a fair amount of flash
but there are no major blemishes on the important services. The wire
wheels are pre-assembled and there is also a pre-shaped p/e radiator
grille included. Other etched parts are supplied for the front windscreen
frame, steering wheel and sundry small pieces. The tightly curved
rear windscreen is a vac-form. Decals are included for either the
Coppa Toscana winner or the Mille Miglia entry which retired.
We haven't always been totally convinced by the sculpting on Le Mans
Miniatures figures but are pleased to say that these are excellent.
The first features a slim young lady reporter with clip board and
microphone and wearing a smart suit, the press photographer is kitted
out for the long haul with hiking boots, shorts, a fisherman's vest
for extra rolls of film, a backpack and baseball cap turned back
to front to keep the sun off his neck! The shaven-headed fan is comfortably
dressed with baggy trousers, sleeveless t-shirt and is carrying both
a shoulder bag and a compact digital camera. The Executives are those men who have seen so many victories in recent
years, the Audi management. Instantly recognisable from photos in
the Le Mans annual (so the sculpting must be good!) are Reinhold
Joest and Dr Wolfgang Ulrich and we think that the third individual
is technical director Ralf Juttner, though we can't be sure as we
can only find a photo of his back!
