Ferrari 212 Uovo M.Miglia 52 #617 1:24
|
£203.45
|
|
Mancini drove the unique Marzotto designed coupe on the 1952 Mille
Miglia but, like the car's creator the year before, he and the car
retired from the gruelling road race. This model, in Tron's built-only
Club range, is beautifully finished with excellent paint, fine wire
wheels and plenty of subtly applied ancillary parts. The exhausts
would have been better with hollow tips but otherwise a very pleasing
miniature indeed and a superb centre piece. |

finely produced photo-etched detail parts. The majority of these sets
include tyre sidewall stencils, grilles, fasteners, barge boards and
seat belt furniture. The exceptions are the MP4/13 which is simply
seat belts and grilles, the F310B wing set which as the name suggests
contains various front and rear wing components, the fuel fillers
and trumpets, which are machined parts and the brake set which consists
of multi-layered p/e discs. |

Ferrari 360 Chall. Strad PE & Brake Set 1:24

The Focus detail set is a simple one, with a few grilles, wipers,
seat belt furniture and panel clips.
As far as we can see the only differences between the two Peugeot
sets are the rally plates and the inclusion of Michelin tyre stencils
in the 2003 set. Otherwise it's very similar grilles, wipers, brake
details and fasteners.
The decals for the 360 Challenge are for the press car, as driven
by a well known German GP pilot. The Challenge Stradale etched set
is grilles, badges, brake facings, wipers and seat belt furniture,
while the p/e parts and brake set includes the same fret and a full
set of vented brake discs. The Challenge set is very similar but for
slightly different grille designs. The exhaust tips are turned metal
with 4 in the road car set and 2 for the Challenge car and the mirrors
are resin. |

This new range is made in Japan and is extremely similar in style
to Studio 27, who distribute it and we think may have had a hand in
production! The resin castings for the larger parts are superb with
very crisp panel engraving and virtually no flash. The white metal
components are nearly as clean and the external parts such as wheel
inserts and body louvres will probably come up well with a thorough
polish using wire wool. There are decent tyres and the decals for
badges and instruments are clearly printed. For finishing touches
there is a small p/e sheet and the instructions for all are clear
and easy to follow. A very good first release.

John
Surtees qualified the NART 330P2 that he was to share with Pedro Rodriguez
but a puncture shortly after the first driver change damaged the battery
and ended the race for them. Renaissance have captured the car well
with a fair level of carefully thought out fine detail. A little experience
will be needed for some of the details but the instructions show the
more complicated bits. They're not quite so good on the straightforward
assembly but a little common sense will see you through and result
in an attractive model. |

Porsche 935 Le Mans 1979 #71 Hawaiian Tropic

The latest instalment in the Renaissance 935 story represents one
of the less successful cars very well. The shape and decoration of
the Barbour entered machine look good. As usual with Renaissance kits
there is a fair amount of flash to remove but unusually there are
also a couple of very thin areas inside the rear wheel arches. The
car was yellow and the instructions don't suggest a specific shade,
looking at race photos we'd say that whatever you use for Ferrari
Giallo Fly should be pretty close.

The fuel filler set contains
two sizes of flip top filler, each made up of a p/e and turned piece.
Just the job for adding that little extra to some makers 250Fs or
Maserati sports cars, or to replace the ones that have been claimed
by the carpet! The leather is of a fairly fine grain and is very thinly
cut. Ideal for a number of uses, be it making bonnet straps or tonneau
covers in 1:43rd or perhaps covering seats on larger scale models.
Very handy for all high-detail modellers especially.

We've already seen this basic model before from Jade, modelled
as the Fantuzzi-nosed 250F first raced in Morocco. The latest version
is Harry Schell's car from the non-championship Formula Libre New
Zealand Grand Prix at the start of 1959. The built model is well
finished in Jade's typical simple style and shows what is possible
from the kit parts. A little filling is needed during kit assembly
to remove unwanted vents on either side of the cockpit and this
is detailed in the instructions.

Citroen HY Fantomas Diorama
|
£148.90
|
|
For those not well versed in 1960's French Sci-Fi (that'll include
me then!) this is apparently a set of machines from the 1964 movie
'Fantomas se déchaine', which according to the dictionary
means 'Fantomas breaks out'. Fantomas is the strange looking green
gentleman behind the wheel of the Citroen van holding the remote
control to the device which apparently knocks a wall down. The model
is well finished and checks out well with stills from the film supplied
by Vroom. Thank heavens he sent these pictures and a description,
otherwise we would have been completely in the dark! Still it makes
a change from Ferraris.....
