Presented in a similar style to the hand built display engines, the
built nose section looks very imposing on its carbon effect base though
its a little disappointing that there is no carbon fibre decal
on the camera or the lower surface of the wing element.
The TRI kit captures the 1962 Le Mans winner of Gendebien and Phil
Hill very well with plenty of detail. The main engine block had a
few pinholes to deal with but once prepared forms the basis of a fully
detailed engine bay.
 |

 |
| In addition to various resin &
metal castings, there are numerous turned parts, pre-assembled wire
wheels, various gauges and colours of wiring and hundreds of pins
for use as rivets. Perhaps not a kit for beginners but the experienced
modeller will be kept occupied for many happy hours and the end result
should be stunning. |

| There are a number of changes
from Profils usual kits with this latest release. The most obvious
difference is the move to 1:18th scale which makes this already large
car very imposing indeed. The proportions look good, though by our
measurements its very slightly undersized, and the large body
castings are very crisp. |

|
| This brings us to
the second change as the body and chassis are cast in a hard Gaffe
type resin. This means that the unpainted kit will need a thorough
clean in acetone to remove all the mould release agent. The painted
kit shows this has been carefully done and the finish is very good.
There is a small amount of p/e for gurney flaps, aero fences and seat
belt furniture, along with a few panel fasteners, though much of the
small detail is moulded in. This includes the pedals and some cockpit
details, which would have been better included with the smaller resin
parts. With a little work and the addition of some extra pieces such
as proper wiring (check Detail Master on our website) this will make
an excellent model. |

| Four very well printed decal
sheets that will offer interesting variations on plastic models. The
Racing Porsche has the prominent cigarette brands blue, red
and gold stripes but the politically correct wording used in certain
countries. The press launch Lancia is subtly different to the race
cars and the Totip car of Gabbiani & Martini will look great with
its orange and green stripes. On the Skoal Bandit Porsche a little
scratch building will be needed on the Tamiya kit as the race version
is a short-tailed car with high downforce nose wing. |
 |
| With each decal pack
a set of clear black and white placement drawings is provided but
no colour references. All cars are white so that shouldnt be
too much of a problem and there are suggestions of websites to try
for research. |

Renault Shooting Star 1956 1:24 Painted
|
£125.65
|
|
| Weve seen several models
of the Shooting Star (or Etoile Filante as it should really be called)
but, as we would hope with the larger scale, this one has the most
panel detail. |
 |
The instructions
include a fairly detailed history of the turbine engined car which
achieved 308 km/h in 1956, though the claim that it still holds the
turbine record is wide of the mark as Turbinator has gone significantly
faster. The resin castings are very clean with excellent engraving
and just the tiniest amounts of flash around the bottom edges. The
finish on the painted kit shows how little preparation is needed on
the castings and is one of the best weve seen from LMM. Add
the clearly printed decals and few ancillary components and you will
have a very attractive model.

|
| Tamiyas recently released
Ferrari Enzo kit (TAM24260)
is already a very highly detailed set of parts but with any plastic
kit theres always room for a little more! The first pack includes
a very fine pre-assembled wiper, slash cut exhaust tips, wheel centre
caps (we think!) and a turned rod that could be a steering column.
The turned shock absorbers are easy to identify and instructions are
included to show the use of the various p/e accessories. |
 |
| Finally, the very
fine pre-shaped grilles are imaginatively packaged so that you will
be left in no doubt what goes where. |

Its been a
while since weve had much to talk about from Museum Collection
but theyre certainly making up for lost time with the latest
shipment! We start with the multi-option crash helmet decals intended
for large scale die-casts. The first sheet includes enough Marlboro,
Rothmans and Camel logos for more than a dozen figures. A colour guide
sheet is included which states years for the individual elements,
but the driver names and events are in Japanese which complicates
matters slightly. The second sheet is similar but as the decals are
for Schumacher we get Mild 7 in place of Rothmans.
The carbon decal is a large sheet measuring approximately 135x280mm
and will add that extra bit of realism to the various bikes and F1
cars made by Tamiya in 1:12th. |
The remaining decal sheets all
offer full sponsorship for their subjects with full colour placement
drawings,
|
 |
| though we are at
a loss to identify the base models for some of them. Two tone paint
finishes will be needed on the Williams, Benetton, Lola and all of
the bikes except the Suzuki, though there are stripes to cover the
masking lines. Turned damper inserts are included for the 500cc bikes
and the 250 Honda has a revised metal mudguard. All of the rally car
sets include fabric and p/e seat belt sets and the Toyota has rally
plates for every round of the championship. |
