Looking very similar to the World Rally Car, but without the outrageous rear wing, the Super 1600 version of the 206 made its competition debut in 2001. Reliability wasn’t a strong point early on and rising French star Cedric Robert retired from the Corsica round of the JWRC. Things were a little better in 2002 and Robert won the Limousin round of the French S1600 championship. The two kits share very similar parts with the most obvious difference being the change of colour from white in 2001 to blue. The bodies are well painted, the resin roll-cages and other ancillaries will need a little flash removing but nothing serious and the decals are clearly printed. Our only gripe is that the vac-forms are anything but clear. We had to search a long way back through the archives to find a previous release of the Ibec.

Eventually we found it in 1985 under the Team-T banner (kit #1 in fact!) and if you missed out then, this is a significant gap filler for collectors of British cars at Le Mans. The kit captures the dark blue machine superbly with accurately printed decals and a good paint finish.
The Inalteras have also been out of production for some time and these simple to build kits will be welcomed by many collectors. All three of these colourful cars did well with the #88 car finishing 4th overall and winning its class, the #2 machine of Lella Lombardi and ‘Christine’ winning the Coupe des Dames and the #1 car coming home 13th. Great looking subjects, well modelled.
New 1:43rd metal kit
RUP012 Ferrari 312PB 1st Targa Florio 1972

£50.70

This is now the fourth kit of the classic 312PB made by Piranha and like the previous issues is well cast and has a fair level of detail.
There is a little flash to remove from the castings and in our review kit one or two of the metal suspension components will need straightening before use, but nothing that will take more than a minute or two to deal with. Two options are included in the kit, the 1972 Targa winner of Merzario/Munari (complete with double mirror so that ‘Little Art’ could see what he’d just blown off the road) and the car as it is now at Mas du Clos.
New 1:43rd resin & metal kit
BBA040 Fiat 131 Abarth MC/TDC/SRemo 1978/9 Fiat France

£38.85

We’ve seen a number of Fiat 131s released under the BBR/Arena collaboration but this could possibly be the most attractive.
The body and chassis are moulded in BBR’s typical very crisp, but brittle resin and will only require the simplest of clean up. The dash and seats are also resin with the remainder of the parts being either cast, turned or etched metal. The p/e sheet is very comprehensive with frames for the flat acetate windows, various grilles and accessories for the outside and plenty of tiny cockpit detail. The decals are very clearly printed and offer four options, three for Andruet and one for Mouton. Take your time with all of the small details and you’ll have a very attractive model.

MAX005M Lola T160 Can-Am 1968 Gurney

£212.25

MAX010M McLaren M6A Can-Am 1967 McLaren

£212.25

MAX011M McLeagle M6 Can-Am 1969 Gurney Slot

£212.25

We’ve looked at several of Maxi-Models pre-painted resin slot car kits in past issues and must say that once completed they look very impressive. We expected the paint finishes to be good, as they always are in the kits, and the attention to detail and general build quality is also excellent.
Each model is mounted on a square, track corner display case with a clear acrylic cover and will look great in the cabinet.

However these models aren’t just built to be admired they’re for racing, just undo the mounting screw and away you go! We resisted the temptation to bring some Scalextric in to test the performance as we do have to work occasionally.....

We knew we were taking a little bit of a gamble when we looked at the first of these die-casts back in FSW 5/2003 but the response has been mostly positive. Hardly surprising when you look at the spectacular subjects on offer. The overall level of finish is very good with the only really jarring details being the slightly heavy rear wing supports. The wheels and brake details are generally good but if you prefer to improve them alternatives can be found on our website for most.

You may also wish to remove the plastic wipers and replace with p/e parts (RENA090 should do the trick). Now that we’ve found the JGTC website (www.jgtc.net) we can tell you that the Toyotas and Hondas here ran at or near the sharp end of the field with wins for the #1, #16 & #18 cars, a second for Wayne Gardner in the #36 car and a third for the #39 Supra. The pretty Skyline was making up the numbers and the very attractive Porsche was a GT300 class winner.

We have a slightly mixed bag from Spark this time round, quality wise. The 333 is not the best model they’ve made. The masking between the different paint colours has been done well, the decals are all in the right places and well fitted. The main dark blue paint is not good however and the rear wing is sitting very high and far back making the whole model look odd. The two MGs are better, much better in the case of the Banana Joes car.

The masking for the two tone paint is neatly done and for the most part the decals are well applied. They’re not perfect but offer a great basis for a little extra detailing (BBD014 carbon fibre, etc) and offer attractive subjects not otherwise available.
The Mirages show what Spark can produce when they get it right with well painted and proportioned bodies and accurate decal placement. Even the rear wing supports are nice and fine.

PMA020122 Minardi PS02 Hungary 2002 Davidson

£22.00

PMA020123 Minardi PS02 Australia 2002 Webber

£22.00

These must be two of the best models we’ve seen from Minichamps. The paint finishes are excellent and the decals, while one or two are slightly mis-sized, are all in the right places and have been carefully applied.
The wing endplates are fairly fine and there are even some areas of vaguely carbon fibre like material around the rear of the car. With some better carbon (BBD014 again!) and the models removed from the transport boxes they’ll look pretty good.

FAS013 Ferrari 712 Can Am 1971 #50 Andretti

£66.75

FAS012 Ferrari 712 Can Am Press 1971

£66.75

FAS016 Ferrari 712 Can Am 1974 #10 Redman

£66.75

The first thing that comes to notice with these very competitively priced hand builts is the quality of the main paint, it is superb. Overall the shapes and proportions also look good and there are some decent detail touches such as engine wiring and p/e rear bracing that are often neglected by other makers.
The models are let down by some rather sloppy black detail painting, especially the vents on the tops of the front wings, and there is nowhere in the cockpit for a driver with legs. Otherwise the Redman and Press cars check out very well with photos, though there are a couple of errors on the Andretti car. With a little red paint on the mirror support and the Firestone decals on the rear wing moved from the leading edge to the trailing edge, this too will be a pretty accurate model.
