 This
kit is a real mixed bag. As a modelling project it is absolutely
superb, with a white metal space-frame chassis to which the builder
adds well cast resin parts for the engine, transaxle and larger cockpit
components along with plenty more turned and photo-etched parts and
wiring etc. As a model, it may not be quite so good though. In profile
it looks fine but the main body is very narrow and flat sided when
compared with race photographs. |

 This
model may be a simple kerbside but is still very impressive. The
paint has just the right depth of shine and there are no obvious
blemishes. The smaller
parts have been sympathetically hand painted and the fine p/e details finish
it all off nicely. The end result is a very impressive model of the car with
which Ascari won the British Grand Prix on the way to claiming his second World
Championship crown and it is elegantly presented in a case with a mahogany base. |

 While
the printing of these decals is excellent, the instruction sheets
that are supplied with them are, at first glance less so. The placement
drawings are fuzzy black and white photocopies in the majority of
cases but closer inspection reveals colour suggestions for the main
fairings and, in many cases, locations of web-based reference material.
You might need to find a different source to that suggested for the
Kanemoto bike though, there are lots of pictures of 'models' but
let's just say the webspace suggested appears to have been hijacked! |

 There
is potential here to have a very good model of one of the Fiat 124s
entered by the factory for the 1973 Giro d'Italia, but you will
have to work at it. The basic shape looks pretty good but there are
a number of bubbles in the main resin casting which will mean a fair
amount of filling and a little re-sculpting. The metal parts are
better but again will need some cleaning up. On the plus side the
p/e parts look excellent as are the decals. The instructions are
written entirely in Italian, so have your dictionary handy. |

| We are happy to say that with one exception (the Jagermeister M1) all of these decals include at least one image of either the completed model or the subject to help with decal placement. The very pretty Danish Championship winning BMW 2002 will need a two tone paint finish and will look very good if built on one of Scala's many '02 kits. Generally these decals are intended for use on Minichamps or other die-casts but there are suitable kits around for most of the subjects. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Finding suitable donors for these may be a little trickier. The Wilkinson Sword sponsored car should work on the Tamiya GT3 kit (TAM24229) in conjunction with the Renaissance cockpit set (REN24168) but more work will be needed for the Hella machine. The only suggestion we have for the 911T is Fujimi's 911R (FUJ08208) which may require a few tweaks. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| We occasionally see some rather unusual accessories that we can't quite fathom. Apparently these photo-etched parts are actually functional blades, the mountings certainly look as if they will fit proprietary handles. It's a novel idea and it will be very interesting to hear how people get on with them. Alternatively if you were making a saw mill for your model railway they could be hung on the wall in the background! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

 These
sets all consist of the now typical selection of grilles, seat belt
furniture, wiper blades and badges. The Impreza and R34 Skyline sets
are for Tamiya kits and in the case of the former we also get a tyre
stencil and some rally plates. The Ferrari and R32 Skylines are for
Fujimi kits and after very close inspection the two R32 frets appear
to be identical apart from the description on the edge. They also
have an awful lot if fasteners on them, so you'll probably have plenty
left for the spares box. |

This 1:43rd tool
box offers two options of how to assemble it. The main box folds
up from a single sheet of p/e and there is then a
choice of lids, either a lift off one or a hinged type. The box is
a transport case rather than a drawer chest and will make a useful
addition to many dioramas. |
