Fiat Punto Kitcar Monte 2001 - Macaluso - 1:24

£54.50

The latest releases from Racing 43 once again offer a fine selection of both modern and historic subjects. We have seen all of the basic 1:43rd kits before and know them to be accurate and straight-forward to build. The only slightly complicated aspect of any of these is that the Quattro will have to be masked and two-tone painted as no decals are provided for the stripes. R43's instructions have improved significantly especially with regard to consistent colour reference and that means that all these kits should be a joy to build. All new are the BIG range Puntos which we know many people have been waiting for. These again are excellent and will look spectacular when completed. Those wishing to build the Daniel Jean Richard Watches cars of the Macaluso family will have to wait a little longer as initial supplies have mis-sized decals which the manufacturer is currently working to rectify. The illustrations here appear in this order (with the first on the right, second on the left and so on) - 294 - 295 - 296 - 298 -299- 300 - 301 - 302 - 303 - RGRS159 - RGRS160 - BIGK064 - BIGK062.

Equipe Tron
Tron - New 1:43rd hand-built model

TRO178PM

Osella PA20S Italian Championship 2000 - Irlando

£111.55

A well finished resin hand-built model of - we think - the car that won the Italian Sportscar championship last year. The body is very well painted in red with a silver cockpit cowl and the decals and small details are neatly applied. The only flaw on our review sample was a slight rippling of the metal foil covering the rear wing - that is unusual for Tron and we expect that it is an isolated problem. There's a colour shot of this model elsewhere in this edition.
Tron/M Models - New 1:43rd metal built model

SMM030MC

Ferrari 246 Sebring 1959 #5 Phil Hill Built

£112.50

A superbly finished model of the front -engined Dino of Phil Hill from the US Grand Prix. The car was entered in the blue and white American colours and ran an experimental engine, different to the other team cars. Unfortunately Hill was forced to retire early in the race due to clutch failure. There are slight creases in the white nose decal where it wraps around the radiator opening but this is lacquered in and is not obvious at first glance and doesn't detract from the overall desirability of the model.

Ferrari 126CK Silverstone 81 Villeneuve

£124.80

CLU055B

Ferrari 126CK Italy 1981 Pironi

£124.80

CLU055C

Ferrari 126CK Canada 1981 Villeneuve

£124.80

A valiant effort by Tron to model the somewhat redesigned cars of Villeneuve hasn't quite worked. The problem is that while they have modelled the bent wings and flat tyres with great imagination the paint finishes are absolutely superb and the cars just look too clean!! Compare the Silverstone race shot alongside with the model photo elsewhere in this issue to see what we mean.

CLU057

Ferrari 312B2 2nd Monaco 1972 - #6 Ickx

£124.80

CLU057b

Ferrari 312B2 Monaco 1972 - #7 Regazzoni

£124.80

Both of these hand-built models appear to be accurate of line and are fairly well finished. The Regazzoni car -#7 - checks out well against race photos and appears accurate but the decal placement on the Ickx car - #6 - is in places casual and in others plain wrong! On our review sample the Heuer logo on the nose is crooked and the decals for the suppliers such as Koni, Britax etc are in the same order as the Regazzoni car when they shouldn't be. Hopefully this will be rectified on later models as otherwise they are fine. Stop Press - Tron are taking our sample back and correcting their production versions of this model.
