The big bang GPM's new web site - www.grandprixmodels.com - is now
live and we're now asking you to do the final 'road-testing' for us!
We'd like you - in the tried and tested fashion of new Lotus owners
of years ago - to see whether there are hidden snags within the site.
During the build up to the launch a whole team of experts - and GPM
people! -has created the new 'Online Model Shop' where you can see
what is available, whether it is in stock or yet to come, and if out
of stock how long it will be before that model comes back in to stock.
And together with each model there will be available a brief pen-portrait
of the maker and his style of modelling. Additionally you'll be able
to see the prices in sterling, euros and dollars together with approximate
postage prices. Over 4,000 of the 12,000 items detailed are pictured
and we'll constantly add new pictures in the future in our attempt
to illustrate every model. The site allows you to buy on-line using
a 'shopping basket', to review your purchases and work out how much
you have spent and then to place a secure order using your credit
card. Now we need you to find any hidden snags for us - please email
us and tell us what you think......
New record boat
John Shinton's latest project is a 1:20th scale 'Press release' version
of the yet to be tried water speed record boat 'Quicksilver' - see
photo above. Driver Nigel Macknight will attempt to reach at least
325 m.p.h. at Lake Coniston with this craft, the creation of which
has attracted many top designers to the attempt team including the
legendary Ken Norris. |

Provence Moulage are launching a new series of hand made models
under the name 'Cars and Drivers'. Each will celebrate the career
of a racing 'giant' and be presented - in similar style to the one
above - on a display base together with a suitable graphic backdrop.
The first - the subject of our photo - is of Juan Manuel Fangio
with his Gran Premio International Del Note Argentina road race
1940 Chevrolet TC Coupé.
More Indy models
Colin Fraser's Formula Models range has come up with an exciting
futures list which includes the Montoya Indy 500 winning Target
G Force, the 1975 winning Unser Eagle, Johncock's 1973 winning STP
Eagle and all the Indy 500 winners from 1998 onwards. Work is also
progressing well on the Target Reynard 981 (ref FOR010),
and also the 981 of Greg Moore (ref FOR013).
For the future Fraser is looking to make four new models a year
and for subject inspiration will look at not just Indy winners but
other significant cars that race in US open-wheel series - i.e.
cars that only turn left.
Here's your chance!
Maserati
are running an international modelling competition to coincide with
the launch of the new Spider. Full details and an entry form can
be found at www.maserati.it under the 'Heritage' heading in the
'Model Cars' section. Entries are welcome on 'paper' at first and
it appears that the company will pay to freight models for the actual
competition which takes place in Bologna. Those chosen will be displayed
for a month.
