The five kits here are very well made with near flawless mouldings and excellent ancillaries. All are designed to be 'quick-builds' with no aggravation and with a great deal of the necessary visible detail moulded integrally. The decals are excellent too as are the large sheets of full colour instructions. None of the cute little Renaults buildable from the first kit did well at Le Mans - all fell out with minor maladies like lack of lights! That would have got the driver's attention with only 700 odd ccs to compete with against Ferraris and works Mercedes and Jaguars - brave men (or foolish) those 4CV pilotes! The MG Metro 6R4 is a fine model of the car that Ayrton Senna test drove for a Cars and Car Conversions magazine feature and includes a good visible engine bay with which you'll have to use your imagination for detailing! The Monte Carlo Rally Datsun 2000 - it looks a bit like an MGB - is very well made indeed and will build to look fine.

There's a good level of detail included and with its two boot-top mounted spares it will attract attention when on display. But - who drove it - we have no record of the car in our published results - does any rally enthusiast know? The Subaru can be built as the works cars of Burns or Solberg and is as excellent as you would expect it to be from PM - i.e. it's very well made and looks like the car. The level of detail is adequate rather than lavish but very little help is given as to interior colours - maybe it was all black? The roll cage is a new device from PM which looks very odd - please let us know how it works.... The two Le Mans Ferraris buildable from the last kit here are both stunning-looking European University sponsored machines and the high level of detail in the box includes a full engine bay together with the engine and what looks like some ancillaries. Some help is given in the instructions with detailing this area but those of you with good photo references could wire and pipe this area and if you are adept with a razor saw you could even hinge the back panel to make it open. Finally - the two Nationale 7 range hand-builts are both very good having quite good paint finishes and good levels of detail. For the price asked they are the bargains of the month. Photos of them appear within our colour pages.

HECMC048

Ferrari 126C3 1983 - Rene Arnoux

£121.80

The 1983 F1 season was notable for taking place during the 1,000 horse power 'rocket fuel' era and was all the more exciting for that.
Not the least of the exciting car and driver combinations was Rene Arnoux in the Ferrari and this model captures the feel of that car well. The level of detail is good but more wiring could have been featured in the engine bay and the top forward edges of the side-pods should really have Goodyear decals but don't. Otherwise this is a handsome display piece mounted on a mirror-tile base. See colour pages.....

Denizen
New 1:43rd scale unpainted metal figures

DEN110

Mechanic tightening (loosening?) wheel nut

£3.05

DEN111

Mechanic working under car

£3.05

Two very well made, high detail figures that look totally realistic - see photo here and another on What's new page 4. Both are designed with races up to the 1960s era in mind although both would actually fit in with any historic theme. And - here's a bonus - both have separate arms so that they can be posed in any position you choose. This range now offers very fine diorama figures for most eras as you can see in the colour shot.

Le Mans Miniatures
New 1:24th scale resin kit

LMM4044

Audi R8 Spider 'Crocodile' 1st Adelaide 2000

£85.95

This is a superb set of very well made, quite high detail parts, with which to make the highly colourful 'jungle' scene liveried Audi which won the Australian round of the ALMS at the close of the last century. From the look of the parts, excellent instructions and amazingly good decals this should build to look quite amazing.

LMMFTA002401

Emmanuel Pirro - Team Audi figure

£7.25

LMMFTA002402

Tom Kristensen - Team Audi figure

£7.25

Two well sculpted figures with a first class level of detail. Because both are equipped with helmets, they will look more realistic when built. LMM's figures without helmets usually look most unrealistic because the facial detailing is poor. Each of these is in a different pose and each has decals for the team's insignia - sponsors etc.

Talbot Lotus-Pond & Grindrod - San Remo Rally 1979

£26.95

MRA438

Sauber Ford C6 - BASF #19/20 Le Mans 1982

£28.70

MRA441

Alpine Renault A441 #26 Le Mans 1975

£28.70

MRA458

Ford Capri RS2600 - Shark Team Le Mans 1975

£26.95

All these new models from Mini Racing are pictured in colour in this edition and from those shots (what's new page 5) you can see that the kits build to look accurate and handsome. They all have resin bodies and chassis, resin and cast metal ancillaries and are designed for simple - fairly quick builds with no aggravataing factors! The instructions consist of colour shots of the built models but because of the relative simplicity of the parts there should be no confusion as to what does what! The two most spectacular models here are the Saubers of kit ref MRA348 - the two were driven by Walter Brun and Hans Stuck and are essential parts of any Le Mans collection.
