Bauer - Bugatti Royale Esders Roadster 1:18 model

Bugatti Royale Esders Roadster model by Bauer

Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine
When the first of Bauer’s beautiful Bugatti Royale models were released we received a few dissenting comments shortly after that it was perhaps a little ‘over scale’. To be honest we were so impressed with the level of detail that we hadn’t made measurements and done the sums but now we do, those people were right, it is about 3cm too long in wheel base and 1cm too wide in track and we don’t care! It is a thing of beauty and the Royale was such an imposing beast that would look big alongside other 1:18 cars anyway. The roadster built for textile manufacturer Armand Esders was arguably the best looking of all of the Royales built and it must have really created a sensation when new with its vivid two-tone green paintwork and white interior. So as not to ruin the lines of the car, Esders specified that no headlights be fitted as he had no intention of driving in the dark anyway. This is the second body that the chassis wore and was only on for a couple of years before being removed and replaced with a Coupe de Ville, which is how the car survives today. The Schlumpf Museum recreated this beauty and the angle of the spare wheel suggests that the model is based on the recreation. The recreation was originally without headlamps but has had some added and these are included so the choice is yours as to whether to fit them or not. As with previous models in this range, there is a fabulous level of detail with an opening bonnet revealing full engine and the option of removing the body to unveil the complete chassis. One external feature of the car was an occasional ‘dicky’ seat at the rear and this is carefully modelled so that the windscreen can be folded away followed by the seat, just as on the real thing. Oversized perhaps, but still beautiful.
