Ford Boss 302 Mustang BTCC 1973 #47 Leech by SMTS
There’s plenty of argument about the histories of these three Mustangs that raced in the British Saloon Car Championship in the early 1970s. Frank Gardner’s car was an ex Trans-Am racer and a successful machine when it made it across the Atlantic. The Birrane car was claimed to have been the car used to create all of the tuning parts for SCCA and Trans-Am racing though it was never a works car stateside and Dennis Leech’s car was built for racing in the UK, running a variety of engines until it gained the 7 litre unit as modelled here. The kit parts are common for all three with just the decals differing and the instructions include placement drawings for all versions, which is positive. Cast wheelarch extensions are included and these are not needed for the Gardner car, though will be for the others which had been modified to Group 2 rules. All are attractive cars but it’s Leech’s monster that’s the looker.
