ABC Brianza - Alfa Romeo 6c 2300 Gran Sport Walter Freund 1:43 model
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine Alfa Romeo 6c 2300 Gran Sport 1937 Freund Hand built available ABC292 This beautiful and unique streamlined Alfa Romeo started life as a conventional competition Spider and the story of its creation is quite remarkable. On the Kesselberg hillclimb in 1931 the car’s engine failed while Nuvolari was at the wheel and it was offered for sale on the spot! A Munich engineer watching with his 18 year old son asked the lad if he’d like it and he was hardly going to say no. So it was that young Walter Freund acquired the car. The engine was repaired (broken con-rod) and a few years later the engineering student designed and built this styling body. The car remained in the family until his wife donated it to the Munich museum at the turn of the millennium and the car remains in unrestored condition. The kit parts are among the better ones that we’ve seen from ABC and the resin body looks well proportioned. On our sample there are a number of bubbles on the underside and the castings are very fine around the wheel arches, so care will be needed during preparation for the two-tone paint. There is a wealth of fine photo-etch for the inside and the outside of the car and it all looks like it will build a very attractive model.
