Carbone - Rolls Royce Silver Ghost London-Edinburgh Tourer model
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine In the early days of the British motor industry there was great rivalry between Napier and Rolls Royce as to who produced the best motor car. The gauntlet was well and truly thrown down in 1910 by Napier when one of their cars was driven the 800 miles from London to Edinburgh, while carrying 4 passengers and their luggage using only top gear for the journey. It achieved this at an average fuel consumption of just over 19 miles per gallon and was then taken to Brooklands where it recorded a top speed of 76mph. Rolls Royce’s response was to do the same trip at an average of 24.3 mpg and 78 mph over the flying mile with a special lightweight tourer and that car survives to this day. The model depicts the restored car and is, as usual for Carbone, finished to a very high standard. A couple of the details, such as the spare wheel holder and headlamps, are a little over sized but overall it looks like the car and we see excellent paint and plenty of fine etched detail. A very attractive model of an extremely historic motor car.
