History Car 43 - Raymond Zanzare 1000 Gr6 1:43 model
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine This is a new departure for History Car and is the first in a new range of hand built only Targa Florio subjects. This quite bizarre little prototype was the creation of one Raimondi Rovign who, if our limited Italian is working, was from Bologna. The car was powered by a 1 litre Formula 3 ‘screamer’ Ford engine and the car was used in hillclimbs apparently with some success. It is the 1971 Targa Florio entry modelled here that confuses us slightly. We have reference to the car in the event the following year under a different race number but not in 1971. However, we do have photos of the car in what certainly looks like the Targa Florio pits with the grandstand in the background wearing #81 and looking just like the model here. Reading period race reports it appears that 120 cars were entered for just 80 starting places and only 74 actually took the start, so we guess it either broke in practice or failed scrutineering. The model captures the shape of the car well and the decoration looks accurate. We’d love to say that it was beautifully finished, but it isn’t. The paint has quite a few blemishes in it and the exposed engine is fairly basically detailed but despite all that, we think it’s fabulous. Flawed but great fun and an inspired modelling choice.
