Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine We were surprised to discover that it was late
last year that we saw the first two editions in
this series of national motorsport histories,
it seems like it was just a couple of months
ago. With the earliest car makers being in
Germany, there has been a national presence
in the motorsport since the very early days.
The silver arrows of the 1930s of course
feature heavily and one section that we found
very interesting was the rise of the smaller
manufacturers during the late 1940s and early
1950s before the emergence of Porsche and
the return of Mercedes. There have been
many significant national championships in
Germany too and these get a look in. France
is considered to be the birthplace of motor
racing and as home of one of the important
races on the calendar, the Le Mans 24 Hours,
France has a very significant place in the
history of the sport. Again there are many
great manufacturers associated with racing,
from Bugatti to Matra and these all feature.
Both books are, by necessity, fairly brief but
they cover a huge range of subject matter and
feature very good photographs.
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
