Books - Silverstone, The Home of British Motor Racing (Author: Parker)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine Silverstone, The Home of British Motor Racing weight 1.7kg by Chas Parker The Silverstone circuit has changed significantly from its first race in 1948 to the present day, but it remains the UK’s premier motorsport venue and deservedly so as owners, the British Racing Drivers Club, have invested heavily in both time and money over the years. This very well researched history starts in 1943, five years before the first race, when a training base for bomber crews was built on Luffied Abbey Farm, the perimeter road and runways becoming the basis of the circuit in the late 1940s. The story is illustrated with excellent period images throughout which captures the action and atmosphere of many different categories of racing and for the early years much use is made of original programmes and circuit maps helping us see how the track evolved.
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
