Books - Lister Jaguar, Brian Lister and the Cars from Cambridge (Author: Skilleter)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine For five short years in the late 1950s, Brian Lister and his small team working from a garage in the back-streets of Cambridge were producing some of the most successful sports racing cars, helped in no small parts to their many victories by the impressive talents of Archie Scott-Brown. Brian Lister was born into an engineering company, largely specialising in decorative architectural ironwork, and it was a thorough apprenticeship in the family firm where he learned all aspects of metalworking that gave the young Brian the skills and the confidence to build his own racing car, having cut his competitive teeth behind the wheel of a Morgan, a Cooper-MG and then a Tojeiro JAP. Lister was soon regularly beaten by Archie Scott-Brown who was in inferior machinery and so a deal was struck for the younger man to drive Lister's cars and a great partnership was born. This excellent history follows the early years and then the successes of both the works anAd various privately entered cars created in the Cambridge workshops. There are a huge number of photographs, mostly black and white but with a fair smattering of excellent colour shots taken by Lister mechanic 'Dick' Barton. Following Scott-Brown's and then, a year later, Ivor Bueb's deaths while racing, Brian Lister stopped making racing cars and the story then stops for 35 years until the name was seen again on fast Jaguar powered machines. It's all in here and the review copy is going straight into the FSW library.
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
