Books - Bernard Cahier, F Stops, Pit Stops, Laughter and Tears (Author: Cahier)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine weight 4kg by Bernard Cahier This huge two volume memoir is from one of the most respected photo-journalists and covers over three decades of racing from the early 1950s through to the late 1980s. Cahier was born in France and grew up during the German occupation, leaving home at seventeen to join the resistance in 1944. Post-war Cahier returned home to finish his studies and then went to work in Cameroon on a plantation for a year or so before moving to California as a student at UCLA. While in America he did a variety of jobs including selling cars for International Motors and here he met Phil Hill. Soon he was back in Europe working as a photo-journalist and his contacts with motor racing people worked to the benefit of both, Cahier being accepted and able to get extremely candid images and he also being able to help up and coming driversí careers with a well placed word. Itís all covered in these two volumes with a huge number of superb black and white photos and thoroughly engaging text. Not cheap but a beautiful publication.
