Books - Harry Lester, His Cars & The Monkey Stable (Authors: Penfound)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine Harry Lester, His Cars & The Monkey Stable Weight 1.1kg by Stewart Penfound Car dealer and engineer Harry Lester had built a reputation for tuning MGs during the 1930s but it was post-war (having spent hostilities designing and building equipment for SOE and MI6) that he started building racing specials. He initially raced himself and was soon commissioned to build three cars for a group of friends who called themselves The Monkey Stable. This thoroughly researched work briefly covers Lesterís early career, including his wartime exploits, before looking in great detail at the cars which bore his name and the people who raced them. The images used are largely from Lesterís own archives and those of The Monkey Stable and most are previously unpublished. There are individual chassis histories for each of the cars built, including early competition histories, and many period documents are reproduced. Fascinating.
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
