Books - Silver Arrows in Camera 1951 to 1955 (Author: Pritchard)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine We think of the 300SL, 300SLR and W196 when mention is made of Mercedes Benz’ return to competition in the 1950s. But the factory’s first races were Argentinean Formula Libre events in early 1951 with Fangio, Lang and Kling driving 1939 W154/M163 cars that had been tracked down in their various hiding places from the war. Several excellent photos of these races are included, along with first hand accounts from Kling’s memoirs. These races proved that a team would work and the newly reformed ‘Rennabteilung’ made its European debut on the 1952 Monte Carlo rally with three 220 Saloons, while back at base work was underway on the 300SL. At over 380 pages, this is a hefty tome and Pritchard’s well researched text is superbly illustrated with a great selection of images from the Daimler-Benz archive and many other collections.
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
