Books - Intermeccanica, The Story of the Prancing Bull (Author: McCredie)

Intermeccanica, The Story of the Prancing Bull (Author: McCredie) by Books

Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine
weight 1.4kg by Andrew McCredie Intermeccanica is one of those little known sportscar manufacturers whose history gets more and more interesting the closer you look. It's a story that takes us from Canada to Italy and back, stopping off in California on the return journey. The company was founded by Canadian Frank Reisner who set up in Turin in the late 1950s, making and supplying tuning parts for European cars mostly sold back to north America. Engine tuning parts for Peugeots led to the newly founded Intermeccanica company moving on to create a complete car for the Fomula Junior racing category and from experiences gained here they moved on to limited production road cars. The first of these was a small coupe, the IMP, an Abarth-esque machine based on a Puch 500 and from this modest base the company stepped significantly upmarket to produce some very striking grand touring cars during the 1960s and 1970s. Problems with parts supply from General Motors eventually led to the Italian adventure ending, the company moving to California and eventually taking the giant corporation to court over the supply issues. Unsuccessfully. That chapter over they then moved into the creation of Porsche 356 replicas and even a facsimile of the VW Kubelwagen. The company still exists and are now working on a new project for a high end GT car, just like the old days. It's all in here along with production records for the cars built in Turin. A fascinating and well researched publication.
