Books - Saab 96 and V4, Rally Giants Series (Author: Robson)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine weight 700g by Graham Robson
Saab's little two and three cylinder front wheel drive cars were popular with local drivers in rally events from the outset and soon the company was entering works machinery, initially targeting class wins with the 92 and 93 models, but with the arrival of the 96 in 1960 they started taking outright victories in no small part thanks to the skills of their top drivers such as Erik Carlsson and, a little later, Stig Blomqvist. This latest in Graham Robson's handy soft cover guides to the 'Rally Giants' briefly tells us of the early years and then in detail follows the successes of the early 96s and their V4 engined successors throughout the 1960s. There are plenty of excellent photos to illustrate the story and the text is engaging and informative. Eventually the cars, like the Mini Coopers they competed hard against, were outclassed by the new generation of far more powerful machines, but for a few years they were a serious force.
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
