Books - Tony Brooks, Poetry In Motion (Author: Brooks)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine weight 1.6kg by Tony Brooks Tony Brooks is one of the great unsung heroes of motorsport, largely as he has always been extremely modest about his abilities and achievements when compared with some of his contemporaries. It has apparently taken decades of nagging from his family and friends to overcome that and put forward this superbly written autobiography some fifty years after he stopped racing. It took just three years from his first race in his motherís Healey-Silverstone for Brooks to be offered a Grand Prix drive in a Connaught at Syracuse in 1956 and it is a measure of his skill that he won that race against the might of the Maserati team and also notable that he did so on a long weekend break from his studies to become a dentist! The decade of racing takes up most of the narrative but thereís a fair amount of background too and we see many excellent photographs thoughout, a number of which are from the family archives and previously unpublished. Your reviewer isnít usually a fan of autobiographies but this a cracker.
