Books - Official History of the Indianapolis 500 (Authors: Davidson/Shaffer)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine Official History of the Indianapolis 500 Weight 2.9kg By Donald Davidson & Rick Shaffer One of the longest established annual motorsport fixtures on the planet (and among the oldest events in any sport), the Indianapolis 500 has run since 1911, but for two brief breaks between 1916-1918 and 1942-1945. Brought to you by the publishers of Autocourse, this is a second edition, superseding that published in 2006. The excellent text takes us through the history of this great race and the chapters are split according to distinct developments both in the motor industry and the race itself. The first 350 or so pages are given over to the story and are very well illustrated with carefully selected photographs. This doesn’t set out to be a definitive study of every car to have taken the start, but gives an excellent overview and there is a detailed results section in the rear for the first ninety-seven of the races.
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
