Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine Upon leaving Stuttgart University in 1956, Hans Metzger could have followed his colleagues into the large local firms of Mercedes or Bosch but instead he arrived at the small Porsche company. Almost immediately he was involved in motorsport and within three years was leading the engineering team on the company’s Grand Prix project. Metzer remained loyal to Porsche, and they to him, for nearly four decades. In that time he oversaw the development of the original 911 engine, insisting from the start that it be created from the outset with both road and competition use in mind, and set up the race design office responsible for the 917 and 936 among others and was also behind the TAG Turbo V6 which powered McLaren to victory in F1 in the 1980s. This is a very personal and humble account from a great engineer.
