Books - Porsche 917, The Autobiography of 917-023 (Great Cars #2) (Author: Wagstaff)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine Porsche 917, The Autobiography of 917-02 Weight 2.5kg by Ian Wagstaff For what appears to be a very narrow subject, one specific car, there is an awful lot in these 320 pages. Chassis 917-023 was the first Porsche to win Le Mans outright and raced several more times during 1970 with the Salzburg team before passing to Martini for 1971. Its last race in period was Daytona 1971 where it crashed heavily but it has, of course, since been restored. The background and development of the 917 is covered, there is also a look at Porsche sportscar racing since 1971 and this is all well illustrated. There is a wealth of photos of the restored car in intimate detail and for historical context, the key figures involved with the car both in and out of the cockpit are interviewed.
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
