Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine We were expecting something of a catalogue here and have been very pleasantly surprised. To fully appreciate this fascinating book, we perhaps need to know a little about the author. Paolo Tumminelli is an Italian born professor at the Cologne International School of Design. Having qualified as an architect he worked for Alfa Romeo as a designer, then Momo as head of design, before moving into corporate marketing for a tableware manufacturer. Quite a CV and one that he brings to this volume which follows the social and technical history of the motor car. The bulk of the images used throughout are taken from the advertising archives of the various manufacturers featured and highlight the fashions and aspirations of the times as much as the cars themselves do. There are some interesting pieces of 1950s and 1960s coachwork that we’re not familiar with and the narrative throughout is offered in English, German and French.
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
