Books - Sports Car Racing 1962 - 1973 (Authors: Schlegelmilch)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine Sports Car Racing 1962 - 1973 Whenever we see the name Rainer Schlegelmilch connected to a title we always expect a visual treat and this certainly does not disappoint. Schlegelmilch’s first visit to photograph a World Championship sportscar race was the relatively short journey from Frankfurt to the Nurburgring for the 1962 1000kms and he was bitten by the bug, following these and many other races for decades to come. This superb collection of photographs covers the first decade of these races with trips to the Ring, Spa, Le Mans, Brands Hatch, Monza, the Targa Florio and across the water to the USA and Canada. The images are a carefully selected mix of race action from some of the most famous locations, moody shots showing the results of some not getting things quite right and plenty of atmosphere as Schlegelmilch wandered among the spectators or through the paddock. Such is the size of the archive that is available, most of the shots are ones that we haven’t seen before and of course there is much colour. The book is split into chapters for specific races and these are introduced by excellent text from David Tremayne which has been translated into several languages to maximise appeal and as well as the potted history of the circuits, there are also small subsections spread throughout highlighting particular drivers. Superb!
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
