Books - World Champion By Technical Knockout, 1969 Racing Season With Porsche (Authors: Zwicki)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine World Champion By Technical Knockout, 1969 Weight 2kg by Helmut Zwickl Originally published in German soon after the 1969 season had ended, this is a detailed view of Porsche’s 1969 sportscar racing season, when the company had decide that they would win and that they would do so money no object. This slip-cased re-edition is brightened significantly with a huge number of photographs from Porsche’s own archives and several of the best known European photographers of the era. The English translation is a little stilted in places but it still gets across the story of this very successful season, from the launch and developments of the 908s and of course 917, through all of the races. Zwickl was given free range by Porsche, although he says in his introduction that at the time many of the technical details were top secret and so there were limits on what he could report. It’s a fascinating period piece and one that many sports racing fans may wish to add to their Christmas list.
