Books - Mille Miglia Story 1927 to 1957 (Author: Acerbi)
Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine Originally devised by a group of sporting friends in the Brescia area to promote the industry of their region, the Mille Miglia rapidly rose to be a major event on the sports car racing calendar but by the mid-50s ever increasing start lists and speeds meant its days were numbered. The accident that befell de Portago, Ed Leslie and nine spectators in 1957 was the final straw and so after its twenty fourth running, the race came to an end. This dual language history draws on many previously unpublished photos, along with other familiar ones and takes us through the thirty year period that the race spanned. The majority of the images are in black and white but there is a smattering of early colour in the 1950s section. Text is in Italian and English and is all very well written and translated. Statistics are restricted to top ten lists for each year but the atmosphere of the races comes across superbly.
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
