BMW’s i8 is a fascinating machine, offering supercar performance from its hybrid powertrain with the fossil fuel element being from a tiny three-cylinder twin turbo engine. Although they will be largely concealed once the final assembly of the model is completed both the hybrid drive unit in the rear and the electric motors for the front axle are reasonably well detailed in the kit, as is the suspension. The four seat interior also has a decent level of detail and this can be seen thanks to the large opening doors. The main body parts are moulded in a dark metallic grey and this does show some flow lines from the moulding process so you will need to carefully prepare and paint here. This is something that we’ve seen before with metallic plastic pigments from various manufacturers. It’s a great looking subject and well worth spending a little time on.
