SMTS' Cooper F3 has been one of the best received models that we have seen for some time and deservedly so as it marks a significant piece of motor racing history and has been beautifully made. Here we see the car in 1000cc v-twin form, as raced by Stirling Moss at lake Garda where he qualified his strange little car in third position behind Villoresi and Sterzi in V12 Ferraris! We commented when looking at the first Cooper kit that there were a few additional parts and now they make sense, the larger engine and longer race meaning that the car was fitted with saddle tanks. A few other tweaks need doing which are not clear in the instructions, such as the relocation of the filler cap ahead of the cockpit to the top of the head fairing so that there are two fillers in line. There should also be an additional exhaust pipe emerging from the rear vent. All easily fixable by the experienced builder but the instructions are aimed at the single cylinder 500 version previously released so don't include these details.
Reasonably well cast white metal kits that build with ease. Open wheeled subjects usually accurate, road cars not always so. With hand-built models again single seaters usually better. Made in England.
