March 731 Holland 1973 #14 Williamson by SMTS
These kits are all based on the same
core parts and offer builders the
opportunity to create the cars driven by
some of the brightest young hopes in
F1 during the early 1970s, particularly
from a British point of view. The Hunt
car was entered by Hesketh and the
kit offers two very different liveries, the
fine pinstriped car as seen in the British
Grand Prix where Hunt finished fourth
and the US Grand Prix where Hunt
was second overall. Roger Williamson
made his last GP start in Holland,
Tom Wheatcroft’s protege being killed
at Zandvoort where his friend David
Purley tried in vain to save him. Jarier
ran a restricted F1 programme in 1973
and didn’t enjoy great success, though
he did win the F2 title in some style and
Mike Beuttler’s effort was pretty much a
self run machine in the best traditions
of the keen amateur, again with little
success. SMTS don’t state a race for
this version but we think that it’s from
the Spanish GP. With a little tweeking
and painting the airbox yellow rather than dark blue, it could also be made as a
number of later season options. The components in all of the kits are cleanly cast
and look as if they’ll go together well. There is a modest amount of photo-etch
included and the decals for all kits are clearly printed and where we have photos
they look to be accurate. Welcome kits of classic F1 subjects.
