BRM P48 UK 1960 #4 Hill by SMTS
Hand built models also available - RL119AM, RL119BM & RL119CM
BRM’s P48 struggled to consistently keep pace with the Coopers and Lotuses which were the cars to beat in 1960, but they did have their moments. Races were led but usually ended in retirement. One cause of problems was the three brake set up, which saw the rear controlled by a single disc mounted on the rear of the transmission. Hill crashed out of the lead of the British Grand Prix with six laps to go due to brake troubles and Bonnier led at Monaco before his suspension collapsed. Gurney did win in the Tasman series but after the rear brakes had been modified to a more conventional four wheel set up. The kit parts show off that unusual central rear brake very well and are cleanly cast but they are identical bar decals in all of the kits, so the Tasman car would appear not be accurately buildable. The instructions are also all the same which is great if you wish to build the Hill car, less so for the others which will need some additional reference material for decal placement.
