Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine Builts also available SCA236AM, SCA236BM & SCA236CM Volkswagen's Beetle had been a successful rally car in the 1960s, winning the Safari three times, but in those days rallies were a test of durability for more or less standard cars. By the early 1970s things were far more developed, but so were the Beetles! The Austrian Salzburg team had moved from sportscar racing with Porsches to rallying with VWs and brought with them plenty of know how and tuning goodies, boosting power to 128 bhp. These cars enjoyed some success on national level events but unfortunately still weren't quite good enough to be competitive on international events and in Portugal the poor little cars were being worked so hard they all blew up. Scala's kit is beautifully made and the cleanly cast resin body has the front luggage boot and rear engine lid cast separately, which will make painting a much simpler affair. The bumpers are metal castings, there's plenty of etch for the small details and the decals are clearly printed. An excellent kit of an interesting, but ultimately not very good, piece of rallying history.
