SLM 43 - Crosley Hot Shot Sport 1:43 model

Crosley Hot Shot Sport model by SLM 43

Product Review Taken From Four Small Wheels Magazine
Powell Crosley Jr had made his fortune in the manufacture of radios and refridgerators but his love was motor cars and just before the war he set up a factory to make very small cars powered by an industrial engine. Production was suspended in 1942 but a new car, the Hotshot, was the first American built sportscar available after the war and was a bit of curiosity with its overhead cam, 750cc engine and four wheel disc brakes. The car modelled here was a special lightweight machine built for a pair of racing enthusiasts who had, with help from the factory, upped power from 26 to 42bhp. Early in the race it ran strongly, climbing the ranks of the smaller capacity cars, before the dynamo seized and ripped out the wiring and water pump. Itís a curious looking machine with downdraft carburettors poking out of the bonnet and SLM have done a neat job of modelling it both in kit and hand built forms. Itís ugly, itís tiny and itís a must have in any serious Le Mans collection!
