Maserati Birdcage 1st Meadowdale 1961 #6 Penske by J-F B Models

Alternative versions JFB43074 Sebring & JFB43075 Daytona

Delivered new to Roger Penske of Ohio in beginning of 1961, second to last Birdcage, #2471 was red with no left bonnet grille. Entered in 9 events with Roger Penske himself with 4 wins (Vineland, Road America June Sprints, Lime Rock, Meadowdale). Sold beginning of 1962 to Enus Wilson, native Creek indian of Oklahoma, who owned previously the Maserati 300S #3068 and after ran 2 Birdcages at the same time: #2464 and #2471, all of them painted purple in different shades. So after the Penske ownership the Birdcage #2471 was resprayed in purple and entered at the Sebring 12 Hours of 1962 (DNF, blown engine). Then Wilson fitted in mid-1963 a V8 Buick engine and resprayed #2471 in dark metallic purple. Then raced with Enus Wilson in 6 events, of which 1 win (Austin). Finally, the Birdcage Buick #2471 with an additional blue stripe and various sponsor stickers was entered in February 1964 at Daytona for the American Challenge Cup (22nd).
