One of a pair of cars originally intended for the Isle of Man TT race for 1500c.c. machinery, chassis TT1 (and TT2) wasn’t quite completed in time and so made its debut in the French Grand Prix at Strasbourg in the hands of Count Louis Zborowski. Despite giving away a quarter of the engine capacity permitted by the rules, Zborowski was running in a creditable sixth place when his magneto failed. The car continued to race with the factory during 1922 and was sold in 1923 to Mrs Marion Nagnew, who named the car ‘Green Pea’. This was another important moment in Aston Martin history as it was the first car the company actually sold! SMTS have modelled the car very neatly, with clean castings for the body and chassis and cast wheel rims to go with the extremely narrow tyres and etched wheel spokes. The simple shape of the car looks good and when we look at photos of the two team cars from the race it all looks good apart from the lack of road registration plates. The photos that we have are obviously from before the start and the number plates may well have been removed. For those wishing to build both cars from the race, raiding the spares box for a suitably sized and styled #8, the second car appears to be identical.
