BMW KR6 1934 by Autocult

A Car with two Stories   The story of the former race car is quickly told. In 1933 the Munich entrepreneur Eugen Stösser ordered a chassis for his race car, which he fitted with and six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1,098 cc, at BMW. With a Zoller’ supercharger the engine had an output of 75 horsepower. In the years 1934 and 1935 Stösser started in 10 different races with his one-off racecar. In 1936 he sold the car to a BMW employee named Stiller.   Thus began the second “life” of the BMW as a road-legal car. Now driven by a BMW aspirated engine, Stiller fitted the car with fenders and headlights and used it until the early 1940s. Without knowledge of its former racing career the car passed through several hands, even went to the USA and finally came back for a major restoration to Germany in 2008. But the financial calculation was probably far higher than expected. Two German dealers got order to find a buyer for the car that was badly affected by the ravages of time. Initially they were not able to find anyone interested and also the racing history of the car seemed to be completely forgotten. Finally in 2017 Marek Schramm bought the BMW and firstly set the decades-long odyssey through the typology of BMW straight. Dr. Dieter Rose assisted with historical documentations to prove the history of the car. Now on the right track it was possible to find historical indications of the former Stösser-BMW which also matched the investigations of BMW archive. In the meantime the one-off was mostly restored to its original condition as it was owned by Eugen Stösser and served as a race car.   How much this car and its confusing background story recently cast a spell of the German vintage car scene is shown by the fact that the red one-off BMW was awarded as the “find of the year” in 2018.
