Alfa Romeo SZ 37th Sebring 12hrs 1962 #62 Martini by Bee Bop
Alfa Romeo SZ Sebring 1962 #62 Martini
Common lore regarding the first car to race in Martini colours is that it was a Porsche at Hockenheim in 1968. Photos and entry lists from Sebring in 1962 rather put the lie to that, a pair of Alfa Romeo SZs appeared wearing the Martini & Rossi Racing Team legend along the front wings. Appropriately car #61, which was classified twenty-fourth, was painted ‘bianco’, while #62, which was the last classified runner in thirty-seventh, was ‘rosso’. The white car was actually run by Scuderia Ambrosiana while the red car was entered under the banner of Martini & Rossi, New York. Both models are smartly finished, our white painted sample being slightly better, and the small detail differences are well observed. Only fifty example of each model are being made.
