Jonathan Williams, A Shooting Star on a by Book
Prancing Horse
Weight 1.6kg by Jonathan Williams
Jonathan Williams unfortunately didn’t live to see this fascinating autobiography published and it is rather poignant that it arrived almost a year to the day since his passing from cancer. His story starts in Cairo where his father had been a teacher, passes through the British public school system and on to a racing career which started as soon he had gained a driving license at 17. Williams was best known for his brief period driving for Ferrari in 1967 including one Grand Prix start, but he also enjoyed success driving for many other marques and private teams and was heavily involved in Steve McQueen’s movie ‘Le Mans’. After retirement as a driver in 1972 he then moved on to become a pilot, flying various executive aircraft. It’s all in here including excerpts from the diaries kept later in life when much of his time was spent travelling in a motorhome and all is superbly illustrated.
