The British are Coming : A look at British Record Breaking and the people that made it happen. by Book
This is a slightly strange but very beautiful book aimed at speed record enthusiasts. It isn’t quite a history of British involvements in record breaking, the early outright LSRs of British cars with foreign drivers or British drivers in foreign cars are not counted, but of seemingly purely British efforts. We start with Parry-Thomas and Babs, there are three generations of Cambell, Seagrave, Cobb, Railton and the other great pre-war names. It’s not just about Land Speed Records either, the Water Speed Record also features heavily. Bringing us to the modern era there are many British speed record attempts on home turf, somewhat restricted by the lengths of runways available on our small islands, and many specialised class records such as the JCB diesel and Don Wales’ electric Bluebird project. It’s all interesting stuff and there a huge number of superb photographs included.
