This beautiful book was first published exclusively for the Phoenix Art Museum as a catalogue to their 2007 exhibition which contained examples of some of the most important streamlined vehicles through the history of the automobile. We were lucky enough to obtain a copy at the time and it is a reference source that we dip in to fairly frequently. Separate chapters concentrate on American and Europen subjects for which streamlining was largely style, all time classics such as the Stout Scarab, Cord 812, Bugatti Altlantic and Louis Delage’s personal D8-120. Competition cars where the shapes were purely functional also feature and here we see examples such as the Miller ‘Golden Submarine’ and Ferrari’s 250TRC. The images throughout are stunning, the cars borrowed from various museums and shot in a studio, and there are period photos and posters to help give a sense of place. The text is by a number of well known automotive journalists and historians, each with their own specialities.
