Rodolfo ‘Rudy’ Mailander was born in Italy of German parents and his multilingual upbringing was a great advantage in his chosen career as a photojournalist in the early post-war years. His big break came when he started covering events for Automobil Revue. The freelance work continued through the early 1950s before he got a ‘real job’ as press officer for Mercedes and then various other manufacturers afterwards. This fabulous collection of images comes from the period from 1950-1955 when Mailander was travelling Europe with his Leica covering all manner of events from race meetings to club gatherings and motorshows. His photo archive was sold to friend Karl Ludvigsen in the 1970s and the latter has carefully chosen some superb images to highlight the breadth of events that Porsche were involved in. Detailed introductions from both men set the scene and then we have informative captions with the images. A beautiful book containing many rarely seen vehicles.
Over the years we have created a library here at GPM and many collectors regularly ask us which books we use most and which are the most reliable source of information. We offer quality titles selected for their reference material content.
