Fiat Mefistofele LSR 1923 1:12 by Italeri
Fiat Mephistopheles 1923
Sir Ernest Eldridge’s magnificent 1924 World Land Speed Record breaker, built in 1923, was the unholy union of a 1908 FIAT SB4 chassis and 21.7 litre A12 BIS Aero engine! Italeri have modelled this beast with plenty of detail and construction starts from individual chassis rails and cross members. The friction dampers are made up of individual components screwed together and there are numerous other screws used elsewhere in the construction as well as more traditionally glued parts. The fully detailed engine starts from a crankcase to which individual barrels, heads and the various manifolds are added and there is wiring included. The steering wheel on the real car had a rope bound rim and suitable string is included for this and the drive chains are all to be made from individual links. It is nearly all plastic but the parts are so finely made that with careful weathering and painting this won’t be obvious. The choice of material does of course leave things open to the very serious modeller to get very creative should you so wish!
