Volvo 142 Lakes 1973 #5 Mikkola by Arena
The Volvo 142 may not be the most obvious choice of rally car but on the 1973 1000 Lakes rally, two up and coming young Finnish drivers used them to good effect, Alen finishing second overall and Mikkola had been up there fighting for the lead too until forced to retire due to illness. When searching for images of these cars, we got somewhat sidetracked by an excellent film of the rally in which the cars feature prominently and compared to this footage, the models look good. Mikkola's car is particularly attractive and for both cars almost the entire model will be covered in decal. Something a little different for rally fans.

Accurate, well detailed resin kits with white metal ancillaries and excellent photo-etched details. Instructions sometimes slightly vague but normally adequate. Castings on some subjects can be a little rough but more recent releases have all been excellent. Due to the amount of etch, they can be quite fiddly to build but in experienced hands make excellent miniatures. Hand built models also available to order. Made in Italy.
