Ferrari 288 GTO 1984 Silver 1:18 by BBR
The Ferrari 288 GTO was born in 1984 as Ferrari's first turbo V8 supercar, with only 272 units produced through 1987. Designed by Pininfarina's Leonardo Fioravanti, its aggressive body featured muscular arches, NACA ducts on both sides, and triple rear fender vents honouring the iconic 12-cylinder 250 GTO. Its mid-mounted 2.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine produced 400 horsepower, pull the car to a record-breaking top speed of 304 km/h (189 mph). Key mechanical innovations included a longitudinal engine placement to accommodate twin turbochargers and extensive use of materials like Kevlar and carbon-fibre. Engineered specifically to fulfil FIA homologation requirements for Group B circuit racing, the car was never able to compete due to the sudden cancellation of the category. Despite never racing, the 288 GTO evolved into the 650-horsepower GTO Evoluzione prototype, which served as the technical development foundation for the legendary Ferrari F40.
