Lotus Excel SE 1988-1990 Red 1:18 by Cult Scale Models
According to the unwritten law of automotive design, which states that the original is always the purest and least compromised, the Excel shouldn’t look as good as it does – after all, it had its genesis in the Eclat and the even earlier Type 75 Elite, launched in 1974. But the Excel seems to get more attractive with every passing year, especially when fitted with 1989-spec OZ alloy wheels, as modelled here by Cult. While it’s also available in British Racing Green, our sample model really ‘pops’ in Calypso Red, which highlights the subtly flared arches. A Magnolia interior also lets you appreciate the exceptionally fine detail inside, matched by equally subtle exterior fittngs such as the delicate windscreen wiper. Shame that the registration plates feature today’s 2001-on font rather than the wider pre-2001 style, though.

About Cult Scale Models
Well-proportioned 1:18 resincast models with some interesting subject choices, many of which have a distinctly Anglophile flavour! Paint finishes are excellent, the smaller parts fit well but occasionally the trim detailing could be better. Made in China for The Netherlands.
